I set the despawn time of items you drop to 10 minutes on the server, its normally 5

how it works is, the timer will count down on your items ONLY while the chunk is loaded

if your out mining some where far from anyone else, and you die, that chunk is unloaded, so the clock doesn't even start ticking until you get very nearby again (close enough for the chunk to load, which by current settings is 8 chucks, or 128 blocks on the X and Z.

if your mining under your house, or under a city where people are currently logged in, it will stay loaded so it will be counting

so keep this in mind, if your far away, mining, and you die, your items can literally still be there DAYS LATER when you go back as long as no one else stays near it for more than 10 minutes

so take your time and get healed up, get some decent gear on, make a boat, bring some food, etc

if someone else is there and you don't think you can make it there in time, ask them for a hand
