well i am not really one to advocate any sort of minecraft client modding.. normally..

but optifine is a MUST HAVE mod for minecraft players

ive used it for a long time and didn't even realize just HOW must have it is until i updated to 1.5 and optifine isnt ready yet.. it is unbearable playing minecraft without it..

it makes minecraft play like practically a whole other game

without it chunks load SOOO SLOWLY even when there is no lag, even on my multicore machine

with it chunks load immediately! i rarely wait for a chunk to load

woah :-o

Plus you can use smooth-glass, which is like the greatest thing ever.

And you can turn off weather, which is just a sound annoyance.

Ctrl-Zoom is also pretty cool.

you guys gotta let us know when it comes out for 1.5

ya there is actually a version out now which seems to do just about everything

my framerate is still crappier than it was before though so it could be that a few things arent in it yet, or that 1.5's new lighting is taking a toll..

I've tried Optifine a few times at different stages and it really makes a staggering difference. Why is it that Mojang code is so bad? What are they not doing? I heard they hired the Optifine guy, is that true? If not, they'd better get on to that...

their server code is terrible too ;)
