im working on a mod which will allow radio beacons and radio chat channels

its been pretty difficult and i had to scrap some of the ideas and now am aiming for a hopefully more viable solution

im hoping to have some new elements to add into the game soon

hopefully maybe beacons by this weekend if i get some more solid dev time

oh man im making epic progress on my radio mod lately!

the beacon functionality is nearly done, i might even include it tomorrow

Can you give us any additional information? How will the beacons work? Will it be some sort of specific structure that acts like an antenna? Would it be better to put it high up? Could you model it on, say, the spire on my tower? :P

the spire on your tower IS a radio ;) (4 radios actually)
just need to add power and a sign

but you shouldnt do it because radios act as beacons and it will lead people to the city

now Intangir didn't you say they can be triangulated to reveal location, so before you bring it online have a plan so someone can't come right to our city

Maybe Diamond ones can have an option to not reveal the location or something.

Or if that seems too overpowered, maybe you would need like 4-16 diamond block base to have that option.

or just dont put a working powered radio ontop of a building in a secret city ;)

they have huge ranges, can put them wherever

Hmmm..... So, could the radio work in a way that custom music is played when you enter a certain area? If I build a temple complex, I want to have a recording loop of the sounds at a real temple playing in the background...

no but you can probably rig redstone, a jukebox, and a record to do that already without any mods
